Client: Belfast City Council

 

Belfast City Council asked us to design and build a big book to promote the Literary Belfast smartphone app - the Council’s tourism initiative to publicise the poetry and prose of Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney, Whitbread Prize winner Michael Longley, Derek Mahon, Glenn Patterson, David Park, Owen McCafferty and Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Muldoon, amongst others.

 

The giant tome would be setup at festivals and events across Ireland and had to be lightweight, waterproof and easy to dismantle for transportation.

 

We designed a self-supporting 2.5 metre tall open book, that was accompanied by a couple of bentwood chairs. The cover was quarter-bound in Moroccan leather and the inner spread featured biographies of the city’s leading literary lights.
